EMBARKING ON A NEW JOURNEY: UNVEILING THE MISSION AND MILESTONES OF THE MOROCCAN SOCIETY OF NOVA SCOTIA

Building Community Through Shared Experiences – Community-building has been at the heart of our efforts, and we have organized various events to bring our members closer together. One of the highlights of this year was our celebration of Eid Al-Adha, where we hosted a potluck-style gathering. This event allowed us to share a wide array of traditional Moroccan dishes, fostering a sense of unity and cultural pride. It was a joyous occasion filled with laughter, storytelling, and a deep sense of community.

In addition to our cultural celebrations, we have also organized a series of social events that have helped strengthen our bonds. We hosted a large barbecue at Oakfield Lake, providing a wonderful opportunity for our members and participants from other communities to enjoy the outdoors, connect with each other, and have fun. Additionally, we organized multiple fruit-picking trips in the Valley, allowing our diverse community to experience the beauty of Nova Scotia while enjoying time together. They provided an opportunity for many newcomers to discover the beaty of Nova Scotia. These events have been crucial in creating a welcoming environment where all members feel included and valued, and they have been open to everyone, reflecting our inclusive approach to community building.

Fostering Educational Success – Beyond fostering community spirit, we are also deeply committed to supporting the educational aspirations of our youth. Understanding the importance of education in shaping the future of our community, we organized an informational session for our younger members. This event provided valuable guidance on university programs and entrance scholarships, helping our youth navigate the often-complex path to higher education. The session was highly appreciated by attendees, who expressed a strong interest in having more such opportunities.

One of our most significant achievements this year was the awarding of our first entrance scholarship, a $500 CAD grant funded by the Moroccan Society of Nova Scotia. This scholarship was awarded to Adam El Youssri, a bright and ambitious student from a newly arrived Moroccan family. Adam, a graduate of Le Sommet High School, has been accepted into the University of Montreal. This scholarship underscores our commitment to empowering our youth to pursue higher education and achieve their full potential. Our goal is to encourage them to enroll in prestigious universities and pursue careers in fields such as dentistry, medicine, law, politics, and economics, thereby becoming future leaders in our community and beyond.

Acknowledging Our Volunteers and Contributors – Our progress and success over the past months would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our incredible volunteers. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed their time, effort, and skills to help build and strengthen our community. Your support and enthusiasm have been the backbone of our society, allowing us to achieve our goals and bring our vision to life.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Fatima Ez-zahra Aabik and Hassan Alaoui, who have worked tirelessly and voluntarily to establish the website of the Moroccan Society of Nova Scotia. Their tremendous efforts and commitment have given us a platform to showcase our cultural and social activities, connect with our members, and reach out to the broader community. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed, and we are incredibly appreciative of the time and energy you have dedicated to this project. Thank you for helping us share our story and our work with the world.

Looking Ahead – We remain committed to continuing our work, supporting our members and community, and celebrating the rich cultural heritage that connects us all. We look forward to more events, more educational initiatives, and more opportunities to strengthen our community. Our events will continue to be open to everyone, welcoming participants from other communities to join us in fostering a spirit of inclusivity and mutual respect. Stay tuned for upcoming events and initiatives.

Together, we are making a difference!
